kiln emptying
- remove the lid.
- ian has a large seive type structure which hooks onto the side of the kiln, angled into it. Once this is on the charcoal is shoveled out onto the sieve which grades the coal into fines, a bag is hooked onto the end of the sieve and collects the charcoal. this shoveling is at first done from outside the kiln until there is space to stand on the floor inside.
- once a bag is full, we then carried the bags to the trailer and emptied them into bulk bags. The trailer took three bulk bags.
- the brown ends- bits which haven’t burnt properly- are kept to used in the kiln next burn.
